FAQ: I have a LASER in my microplate reader and I am wondering what is the lifespan of that LASER?

BMG LABTECH has three different types of LASERs that can be used in a microplate reader:

  • • The NEPHELOstar Plus  uses a red diode LASER that emits at 635 nm. This is a solid-state LASER and never needs to be replaced.
  • •    The PHERAstar FS  has two different LASERS:
  •     -    For AlphaScreen® measurements, a red diode LASER that emits at 688 nm is used. This is a solid-state LASER that never has to be replaced.
  •     -    For TR-FRET or TRF measurements such as HTRF®, a nitrogen-pulsed LASER is used that emits at 337 nm. This LASER has a sealed chamber with nitrogen gas which depletes over time. It has a lifespan of 3-5 years.
If you think your LASER is not performing properly and needs to be serviced, please contact your local BMG LABTECH representative.

AlphaScreen is a registered trademark of Perkin Elmer Inc.
HTRF is a registered trademark of Cisbio International.
