Focus on Academic Centers and Core Lab Facilities Using a BMG LABTECH Instrument

A recent trend in academia is to provide an onsite center or a core lab facility where multiple researchers can take advantage of instrumentation or services that are not available to individual labs. An example of such a facility is at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The Center for Targeted Therapy allows researchers to coordinate all stages of the drug discovery and development process. As part of this Center, a Small Interference RNA (siRNA) Screening Service is provided which uses BMG LABTECH’s FLUOstar Omega multimode microplate reader. This service provides automated, high-throughput screening of cells using an siRNA library which targets more than 20,000 human genes. This service allows investigators to identify previously unknown mechanisms in which genes are altered in cancer cells.
