Fun Fact: Chitosan nanoparticles: antibacterial properties for wound healing, anti-aging preparations?

Nanoparticles made from chitosan (a natural, non-toxic, biodegradable, polysaccharide obtained from the chitin found in shrimp and lobster shells) were manipulated by a research team at Farleigh Dickenson University, with a resulting preliminary product that inhibited microbial growth of Staphylococcus saprophyticus and Escherichia coli.

Exploring and understanding the antimicrobial, wound healing, and growth stimulation properties of chitosan in this preparation may indicate eventual applications, such as new antibiotics, in the pharmaceutical industry.
