FAQ: Can a BMG LABTECH instrument measure microplates from Seahorse Bioscience?

Yes. In fact, the OPTIMA series, Omega Series, PHERAstar Series and NOVOstar microplate readers can read microplates from Seahorse Bioscience. If a fluorescence intensity, luminescence or absorbance assay wants to measured using these microplates, say to quantitate cell number, the microplate definitions can be easily programmed into the microplate library, or a new plate format can be created using BMG LABTECH’s plate mapping feature. Though a BMG LABTECH reader cannot measure oxygen or pH using the Seahorse Bioscience microplate, there are other oxygen (application note 223) and pH (application note 219) sensing assays that can be performed that do not require the Seahorse Bioscience microplate.
