FAQ: What type of microplate should be used for fluorescent intensity assays?

This is one the most frequently asked questions from BMG LABTECH users. Since most BMG LABTECH microplate readers are multimode readers, the microplate type needs to be considered. As a general rule of thumb:

For fluorescence measurements, black microplates are used.
For luminescence measurements, white microplates are used.
For absorbance measurements, transparent microplates are used.

Depending on the microplate reader,  all microplate formats from 6 to 384-, 1536- or  3456-wells from all leading microplate manufacturers are compatible.

Certain assays require special low-volume microplates, such as the LVis plate [http://www.bmglabtech.com/products/microplate-reader/lvis-plate.cfm] The LVis plate allows you to measure a full UV/Vis spectrum in up to sixteen 2µL samples.
